Laid Back Fun at Home

We had a lot of fun running errands, watching March Madness and cooking/baking up a storm over the weekend!  Here are just some fun pics!

Doesn't everyone use their little brother's head as a drum?

Hello Easter Bunny!

On Saturday we took the boys to see the Easter Bunny and to ride the train.  Brady loved the train of course and surprisingly enough, Mason did great with the Easter Bunny.  We've been dealing with
'mommy issues' lately with Mason--he only wants mommy and doesn't want anyone else to hold him, etc. But he just looked the Easter Bunny up and down and didn't make a peep!

Ringing the bell on the train

He had to be in the front car of course!

Look at Me!

Mason finally decided it was okay to stand at his activity table...

This is kinda fun mommy!
Can you see my toofers??

I'm a big boy!

Apparently big brother was a little less impressed!

11 Months!!

On the 12th our lil guy turned 11 months old...how are we less than 1 month away from the big 1st birthday?  It just seems unreal.  We have transitioned him to a new carseat...it was so bittersweet getting rid of his infant carrier...I was a little sad, I must admit!  Our boys are so different as we had to switch Brady to a new car seat when he was 9 months old...he was a BIG boy!!  Mason has decided he is totally content to scoot around.  He hasn't stood up on his own so I don't foresee any steps before his 1st birthday...I'm okay with that...here's our little cutie!

Feed The Birds!!

In Preschool a week or so ago Brady learned about birds and made a homemade 'bird feeder'...which was basically a mini-bagel with seeds, etc on it tied to a string.  Well the weather was finally decent to go put it up...so that's what he and daddy did.  Brady was just a little excited!!

And...30 seconds after hanging it on our 'tree' it fell apart...ha ha ha!

In the Kitchen

It's no secret, given my job and my passion for it, that nutrition is very important to me.  Over the past 6 months I have switched our eating habits to 90% 'clean'...that basically means no processed foods...no foods out of bags, boxes, containers, etc.  While this does add more work, I personally feel the end result is so worth it for my family.  Everyone is different and that is totally okay!  For our family, we are trying to limit refined sugars, nasty artificial flavorings (and especially artificial colors...that's a whole other can of worms) and white flour.  That doesn't mean that we don't have occasions or times that we eat non-clean because we do splurge from time to time (anyone been to Scratch Cupcakery??  Oh my!).  So this means that I make pretty much everything from scratch.  I've found awesome kid-friendly recipes and make on a weekly basis:  granola bars (way better than store bought), cheese crackers, vanilla wafers, whole wheat banana muffins, chocolate zucchini bread, macaroni & cheese, and lots of yummy foods for Andy and I.  Whole Foods and Trader Joes are my top spots to buy quality ingredients that are all natural (Whole Foods natural peanut butter is the best and so are their brown rice cakes!) Our favorite weekend treat is homemade buttermilk pancakes (for the boys).  I always have the best helper!  On Saturday we decided to make them extra special--we added semi-sweet natural chocolate chips.

I really wish we could find a really yummy whole wheat pancake recipe but I have yet to...oh well, a weekly treat is okay!!

He seems thrilled to have his picture taken...

Seems safe to have him lean over a hot griddle...bad mommy moment there!

Baby Brother likes them too!

Making banana muffins...yum!

Family Fun Day

On Saturday we headed up to Gowrie in the morning so we could see Joe & Marilyn as they were in town from Springfield, MO.  Karl, Lisa and Laura also came over for dinner.  We had a great time catching up, the boys had fun playing and we had lots of yummy food!  Here's a recap of our day in pictures...
